Black Hearts in the Green Room or, An Afterlife in the Theatre

Walterdale Playhouse is proud to present the World Première of Scott Sharplin’s melodrama, Black Hearts in the Green Room. The set is being dressed for a production of the (fictional) melodrama Dark Times on the Red Ranch. A play-within-a-play set in Walterdale Playhouse – A perfect way to celebrate the Playhouse’s 50th Anniversary.
Characters: IVANA – the tyrannical directress of Dark Times
HELEN – a starry-eyed starlet. Plays ‘Penelope Trueheart’ in Dark Times
NATASHA – actress and armchair medium. Plays ‘Widow Friendly’ in Dark Times
GOODWIN GRANT – a charming actor. Plays ‘Ranch hand McValiant’ in Dark Times
JOANNA – a pianist. She provides musical accompaniment throughout the play (and the play-within-the-play)
CASSIE – a scatterbrained stage manager
BARNABY BADLINGTON – a professional ne’er-do-well
HAROLD HENCHLEY – a lackey. Eventually plays Grimley Sneerwell in Dark Times
WALT – an elderly ghost, formerly a fireman
LUNA – an intense and gloomy specter, formerly in the furniture industry
STELLA – a diva of the afterlife, formerly an actress (almost).

Audition slots will be ½ hour segments and will start at 7pm each night at Walterdale Playhouse (10322 – 83 Avenue). The monologue must be from a comedy and be under 3 minutes.
